First place among the Sacraments of the Orthodox Church is occupied by Holy Baptism, by which a man, who has come to believe in Christ, by being immersed three times in water in the Name of the Holy Trinity, is cleansed through Divine Grace of all sins (Original Sin and personal sins) and is reborn into a new holy, and spiritual life. Sunday is the summit of the week and, like the heart irrigates the whole body with blood, Divine Liturgy and Communion must irrigate the whole week. A Christian — especially if he takes Communion frequently — must not be satisfied with being a Christian only on Sundays from 10 to 12. In other words, Sunday should set the spirit for the whole week.

When I began attending an Orthodox church, one of the first things to catch my attention was the lack of pews (or rows of chairs). I asked the priest when our seats would arrive. “Never,” he replied. Поэтому христианское воспитание детей — это и вопрос спасения души самих родителей. Верующие родители должны как можно раньше крестить своего ребенка и с того времени ходить с ним в Церковь, регулярно причащать его, с младенчества молиться о нем и при нем вслух, в свое время обучить его молитвам и основам веры.
